This week’s topic is the story behind our business.

David and Sandra started David Jennings Building Services back in May 1994. David had been in the building industry for 16 years prior working on large construction projects in Nowra, Canberra, Sydney and Wollongong including helping build Wollongong City Council Chambers, Canberra City Center clock tower with Civil and Civic. After being retrenched by Civil and Civic in 1990. David went and worked for Superior Developments and later on Affective Services as a waterproofing manager.After leaving Affective in 1993 to work for local Wollongong builder, however at the end of the first year with this builder the company went into liquidation. This was the catalyst to commence their own business. Their first major job was an upstairs extension in Park Rd, Bulli.In the early days they understood the need for multiple sources of income. David did various types of work including building inspection reports, Strata management maintenance and small commercial projects. The main focus was always on residential construction.

David Jennings Building Services has come a long way from its humble beginnings in 1994. 19 years later and still building a great reputation. The company is still a family run business with David and Sandra still continuing to create a vision for their business. In their time in operation in the Illawarra they have built in excess of 20 homes, completed in excess of 50 extensions / renovations, laid in excess of 100 floors, completed 15 commercial projects and cladded in excess of 25 exteriors. They have trained 7 apprentices including two of their sons and their very first apprentice still works for them as a senior carpenter today.

The business also includes David the man behind the brand, two of their sons Chris who managers Boardwalk Exterior Linings and Michael who is completing his apprenticeship. Sandra and Doug who manage the office. Daughter Rachel is now on-board to help with marketing, PR and building the brand both online and offline. And who could forget their 5 other wonderful carpenters Chris, Steve, Mark, Hayden and Jordan who work tirelessly on the building site everyday to help sustain our image of building a great reputation.
